Embracing multilingualism and global citizenship

Speaking multiple languages is a bridge to new cultures, connections and endless possibilities. At BCIS School in Phuket, with over 50 nationalities and 30 languages represented in our community, we celebrate linguistic diversity. Our main languages of education are English and French, but we encourage translanguaging, using home languages to enhance learning.

EAL Programme

Students develop English language proficiency through a structured, multi-tiered English as an Additional Language (EAL) programme. Designed to strengthen listening, speaking, reading and writing skills, this approach enables learners to access the curriculum while building both social and academic language. By learning content and language side by side in our bilingual school in Thailand, students progress with confidence in a supportive and inclusive environment.

Experienced support

Students receive targeted English language support from qualified specialists, based on their proficiency levels. They collaborate with staff, maintain a home-school partnership and report regularly to ensure personalised learning. This tailored approach allows students to work in small groups, ensuring they receive the attention they need to succeed.

Translanguaging for learning

Students use their language skills to think, communicate and grow. Translanguaging is at the heart of our multilingual, inclusive curriculum. Students use their home languages alongside others to enhance learning, share ideas and connect with their identities. This approach builds positive attitudes and deepens understanding.

FLSco French programme

Students develop core French language skills through our FLSco (Français Langue de Scolarisation – French Language Schooling) programme. At BCIS, with guidance from qualified teachers in small groups or one-to-one sessions, they build fluency, strengthen communication and access the curriculum with confidence in a multilingual environment.

Early language assistance

Students get support through our FLSco programme, starting in CP (Cours préparatoire) from a young age. Children in small groups receive dedicated help with French throughout their school day, up to Collège.

Gradual curriculum integration

Students become confident bilingual communicators in BCIS. The multilingual curriculum gradually integrates international students into the French programme. As students' progress, they’ll need a level B2 of French to enrol in Middle school and level C1 for Secondary school.

Empowering every learner

Through multilingualism, we empower students with skills, confidence and resilience, preparing them for success in a global, interconnected world.

Tailored language assessments

In our International School in Phuket, we believe in personalised language learning. When a new student is enrolled, the Head of EAL conducts an initial language assessment to determine their proficiency level. Based on the results, students are placed in either mainstream English or the English as an Additional Language (EAL) programme.

Real-world language opportunities

Through the International Opportunities programme offered by International School Partnerships, our students engage in cultural exchanges, debates and creative film projects. These activities provide safe and stimulating environments where they can confidently practise and enhance their language skills.
